Mutual Feelings is an ongoing project emerging from enquiries into entanglements between place and the body through acts of writing, reading and movement.

So far, collective actions have prompted critical engagements with how our bodies and environments co-produce one another; exploring transformative capacities to affect our surrounds.

Prompted by an artist research residency with Rhubaba, Mutual Feelings first materialised as A Reading Circle on Body and Place, a series of free workshops taking place in spring 2023, with participants gathered through a public open call.

The circle gathered to explore everyday entanglements, material cultures and migrations, and notions of another place as a space in which to ‘imagine otherwise’ [Olufemi, 2021].

Sessions were situated across three sites in Edinburgh: the Fruitmarket Warehouse, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and Granton Castle Walled Garden.

The same group of participants re-gathered for a further workshop series oriented towards A Reading on Body and Place, a performance supported and hosted by Fruitmarket, Edinburgh.

Poetic and reflective writings generated during the reading circle were refigured as live readings; choreographed collaboratively as a holistic performance in the gallery for a public audience.
