Baltic Street Adventure Playground is a free to access, free to play adventure playground in Dalmarnock, in the east-end of Glasgow. Children are free to involve themselves in all aspects of the playground, from management and decision making through to playworker supported make-believe and construction.
Following BSAP’s principles of child-led development, we worked with kids in the playground to test ideas that we could carry forward into the cladding.

After tattooing drawings of the wikihouse, the young people had the opportunity to work directly on the cladding, ingraining their ownership of the space.
The system of panels, kindly donated by CMS Cladding, offered a blank canvas onto which they applied spray paints during a workshop session. Vibrant colours, plants and emojis were popular themes!

A week of construction workshops, led by Civic Soup with the help of many enthusiastic volunteers, brought the project to a close. As well as fabricating the design, volunteers and the kids were learning construction techniques and developing tool skills.
The wikihouse has come to serve as an important indoor space for both play and the playground’s management.
